Road Trip

Last weekend we decided to get out of town and head down to Seward to visit Dave and Shiway then make the loop back up north through Fairbanks.

We headed south Thursday evening planning to camp out near the Denali highway but we stopped at a friends place at Summit lake along the way and ending up crashing at his place.....good thing too becuase the first picture below shows the conditions we found on the Denali hwy- not good for camping! We stopped alittle further south where there was less snow and did short hike.

Bear tracks in the snow

Pretty little stream

Back in the car....

We were supposed to meet friends for dinner in Anchorage on our way through but we stopped briefly to let the dogs out and Nellie came running back from the woods covered in blood. Luckily, it looked alot worse then it turned out to be but we had to stop in Palmer at the vet and she got 15 staples in her leg. It didn't seem to slow her some one bit. We won't talk too much about the tapeworms...we will just say that Nellie had a rough weekend and probably won't be invited back to our friend's houses any time soon.

We didn't take many pictures in Seward becuase it was raining so dang hard, the boys got out and took the picture above. Shi and I did get out briefly but spent most of the weekend talking about babies and weddings, Dave and Shiway are getting hitched on July 28th :) We left Seward just in time because the highway ended up closing for a while because of flooding. When Jeff and I left on Monday morning the water was already coming over the road in several places.

But I am gald we were not in Valdez. A guy at work sent me the picture below- this part of the highway will be closed for a while! You can see the street sign in the middle of the picture.

On our way north we spent the night in Healy at Emily's house. She had gotten a new Mac computer for school and it came with this fun built-in camera that distorts the images. We almost bust a gut laughing so hard at the pictures, hours of entertainment. Her students will never get any work done if she lets them play with this.

By the time we made it back home on Tuesday we had logged almost 1,000 miles!!
